And so it begins... Season 2014. My goal this year was not to put so much effort into planting this year because I was and still thinking of moving. I do love the area where I live but meeting people here is tough, I miss culture, and my current job pays so little...
What a long year! The snow would not melt! I kept my skis in my car till April!
So, last year...
I had cut down young trees for my pole beans so this year I used them to make a fence. All my hard work getting the cliff back into shape I wanted people to have the sense that they won't fall off the cliff of doom... I latched the wood initial with rope then tighten it with wire.

The Winter season...
was ending as we the outdoor furnace was about to be turned off but then we got some more wood..I was told that the wood was going to be for next Winter..
I wanted to create a fence around my backyard I decided to stack the wood strategically!

| Aaaah yes!!! |
I got rid of the triangle garden bed and placed the long rectangle beds
I had a nice reading spot. It blocked out the traffic and it gave me some privacy!
I was impressed with my stacking ability... making the pile curve like that was pretty awesome
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I moved the large garden bed off to the right giving the backyard more a grassy area...
Peas were the only things I planted from seed. Which in the end I wish I started more with seed only because I would of saved a lot of money!
I worked on the amping up the walkway off the cliff of doom
My Dragonfly & this area among other areas not just in
my backyard have been created in honor of Ryland
my backyard have been created in honor of Ryland
I have noticed that over my years of gardening I haven't been that much involved in it all... There are great healing properties in gardening...plus giving back to Mother Nature is so vital for the Earth. Karma perhaps, no???

I had no idea....
what this plant was till my friend Heather who is a super garden guru told me this, Well it's meadowsweet (filipendula) weed around it and give it a little elbow room and love.
to move the large garden bed. The large garden bed need a divider so I put planks of wood right down the middle.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I then...
bought plants at Walmart.. Yep, I said it.. Walmart. I only bought pansy's there & that pink flower that died... You pay for what you get, right?!
But then I supported...
my local garden center JM Landscaping in Bradford VT and bought some other plants.... Some interesting characters work there! awesome awesome people!!! It's such a down to earth (no pun intended) place!
I bought some Morning Glory's. Gosh I love them... I wanted more plants that grew like a weed but beautiful!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I then...
placed planks of wood to create another lip... Brought the driftwood down and planted around and within the driftwood so it looked like that its has been there for quite some time.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The light is SO gorgeous where I live & love!
I would of liked to put a fence around my entire yard but I didn't have enough chicken wire and I didn't want to invest anymore into my backyard due to the possibility of moving.
My cats experienced an off leash experience... Fanny (the calico one) doesn't like it outside as much as Roxy.
The peas came up FINALLY.. I took forever!

| I started another cute nook! |
I moved another driftwood piece to the edge, placed down some dirt, and planted grass seed. I moved the planter because I thought it deserved a better audience than it being something to just pass by.
Sorry, I just noticed that these pictures are out of order...
Oh well!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I found a few things at some yard sales.... Everything minus the tools, plants, and dirt I have bought secondhand and or got them for free which is a price I cannot pass up!
I have to tell ya living in the Upper Valley / Kingdom area and driving pm Route 5 & 10 is like a friggen goldmine!!!!
Buy things USED!!! Why?
- There's more character
- It's way cheaper OR FREE!
- Less production from corporations creating MORE STUFF we don't necessarily need!
- Less of carbon foot print... etc!!!

The HEAT is ON!
I noticed Fanny overheating so I made her shelter which she doesn't use... AWESOME! Oh well, I have a seat now...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I began.....
to make another stone terrace area..
but I didn't finish that till just yesterday..
I laid out the drip hoses which I don't use much because I find it easier to use the hose...
Tomato plants back in black buckets because it absorbs the sun
keeping the tomato plant root warm like they want it.
FACT: coolest looking beetlekeeping the tomato plant root warm like they want it.

Google: Golden tortoise beetle. The golden tortoise beetle (Charidotella sexpunctata) is a species of beetle in the leaf beetle family, Chrysomelidae. It is native to the Americas. This beetle is associated with plants in the family Convolvulaceae, including sweet potato, morning glories, and bindweeds.

OK back on track.....
Resume growth!
Things are growing!!!
It's....... ALIVE!

The leeks, kale, lettuce, and omg the HOPS are booming!!!
I am one happy camper!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But..... HOLD THE PHONE!
Something is not only eating the peas but my lettuce, cilantro, & my kolrabi...
That something was a woodchuck!
I WAS PISSED.....
That day I not only put Fox urine out but I plastic wrapped and reverse tapped around my peas... I also laid out tape on the rest of the damaged plants.... But the woodchuck came back.. Apparently this season there is an abundance of woodchucks... Last year I was told by Paul to break off pieces of Juicy Fruit gum near the plants the woodchuck was eating... That I did, and I don't recall a massive change but as I think about it more perhaps it did indeed work! ... I told the guy at that Agway in Plymouth, NH about this method and he told me that it only works on chipmunks.... and I believed him which made me buy the urine which didn't work! what a crapshoot!
Anyways, so I contacted my local friends with guns..... hahaha. Really that only method to get rid of the little bastards (woodchucks)... I couldn't use the gun method because I live near a lot of people.... Any firearm, because I was seriously thinking of getting a pellet gun!
Well, just my luck my friend Brian had a trap....
Two days later.... We caught him!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6.24.14: I have come to the conclusion that pea season is done... It was a late season to begin with, plus the woodchuck destroyed all my hard work.... On with planting pole beans... fingers crossed the woodchuck friends won't be coming around!
Pole Bean seed will go in on Friday 27, 2014.... This time I am not going to have large poles but rather 4 foot poles that turn into an arch which is about 7 feet high... I made the arch by cutting a hula hoop in one spot, taping it to the posts, and then using galvanized wire for the rest of the arch way....
Pictures to be seen in the next blog post....
